How Certified Seed Is Closing the Yield Gap for Smallholders in Northern Nigeria
In Kano State, where informal and recycled seed has historically accounted for over 70% of planting material, Agricolafrique's certified HybridMax Maize H101 and AgriCow CW-9 are rewriting what farmers expect from a bag of seed.
Independent monitoring by the Kano Agricultural Development Authority recorded a mean maize yield of 4.9 t/ha among 600 Agricolafrique certified-seed users in the 2025 wet season — against a state average of 1.8 t/ha from informal seed. For cowpea, certified CW-9 delivered 3.1 t/ha against a check average of 1.2 t/ha.
